Do you think about the theology and implications behind the words you sing on Sunday?
This is an awesome amazing, all powerful, breathing stars into life sort of God we are dealing with. Thunder is a whimper in comparison to his strength and power. Our wisdom is as nothing in comparison to His. He left a large splotch on Jupiter, an endless hurricane (technically an anti-cyclone) that is the size of 3 of our planets to continually remind us that we are but a pipsqueak to the magnitude of His infinite power. Yet we sing to Him, our love, more carelessly than we would say words to our own parents. Let us think about our words.
And... do we ever just stop and wonder... how brilliant, splendid, and exquisite it is?

Not only is the Great Red Spot intriguing, it is part of an entire planet made up of a maelstrom of seething anti-cyclones, storms, lightning bolts thicker than skyscrapers, and mysteries. The planet almost looks like a floating intergalactic mixing sand jar. If the energy from massive storms on earth can cause peach ring shaped halos of plasma in our atmosphere (kind of like larger scale forms of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8AIUiFRQzw), then imagine the great mystique of what may be formed in planets like Jupiter.
The plasma circles I am speaking of are called elves, sprites, and tendrils.
What they look like in real life...
No wonder people sometimes think they see UFOs. Scientists... iz you sure this is not aliens?

Watch it hang there as though it were simmering with a distant hum; as though it were a drifting gigantic plasma jellyfish, looming through the seas of space. And all that was glowing was the parts of attraction, the poisonous electrical storms tendrils.

Watch it hang there as though it were simmering with a distant hum; as though it were a drifting gigantic plasma jellyfish, looming through the seas of space. And all that was glowing was the parts of attraction, the poisonous electrical storms tendrils.
Think, if we can visibly see these auroras on planets, then what could be happening that is not visible billions of kilometers away?
Yet, having said all of this, I do not want to take away a sliver from the importance of recognizing that we do indeed love him. That he ravishes our hearts. I was amazed once realizing while praying with a couple that I had often prayed with; that they always ended their prayers by saying, "we love you God." Or, a personal, "I love you." It nearly made me want to cry, to just stop and think that I was allowed to say to the God of the universe... I love you. And he would listen, and love me back.
Where do we boast? even in sports, do you just trash talk, do you consider it playful (and is the opponent aware that you are doing so lovingly or playfully?) or could you be hurting others? In anything; how much do you boast over others? Do you boast with sneakingly showcasing your talents (its not wrong to share pieces of who you are but) do you purposely break out a guitar or sing around people in order to make a stance, to gather attention, to prove something, when you don't like how things are going, or when others might not want you to. What do we have that wasn't given to us and what do we have to boast of? Nothing. We are only weak men and women in need of a great and awesome God. Do you pray and let God help you and then when the prayer is answered take the credit for what happened? Do you boast in the fact that you don't compliment others in the areas of your strength? Are you able to share in their joy, especially those of the body of Christ whose glory is shared with us because it comes from the same God and we are one body? I know it has been hard for me and I have had to consciously strive to see with a truthful lens to help me get passed my jealous sin to not applaud brothers and sisters. Do you boast through your complaints? Do you complain by saying all that you have done which is also subtly a plea for understanding and love and for someone to care but also can be for attention and prideful expression that doesn't recognize that we do not deserve better. Do you boast through pictures that you put up on the internet? Its not bad to put pictures that are cool but you know that you could be putting something in somebody's face or trying to drag attention for the wrong reasons. Let us trust God and ask Him to help others know and understand us. To be loved doesn't mean to be the center of attention. Isn't God big enough to have someone deeply care for us without even knowing that aspect of you immediately. Do we ever leave out a graded paper that is highly graded on the counter top to purposely reveal through planning how we did? We all have been there where we set up a situation to put ourselves in good light. Can God have someone understand you and how great you are without putting yourself in great lighting? Can God have someone get you without you even telling them? I its not bad to tell people about ourselves rather isn't it amazing that He is so powerful that He CAN take care of these desires to be known powerfully? Do you boast in stories you tell perhaps in what light you shine your life or workplace. I am not saying only let people know about bad things and put yourself in a poor light. But are we being honest, are we leaving out the fact that we are wretches in need of grace and boasting in weakness in God's greatness and power? And if a brother or sister has a gift, why can't we celebrate with them? Our jealousy is only pride, because we are interconnected with our brothers and sisters like a body whose eyes cannot say that they do not need their hands. We are all valuable and make a spiritual body, we together, are like a wife to the husband of Jesus. And so our successes should be celebrated as though they were our own, and we should mourn, likewise, as though it were our pain. The most unloved, unwanted person among us, should be our priority. Just as you would want to be.
Friend do you just want to share how you are feeling, or do you ask others and fight to be present while they are speaking?
We cannot love without the Spirit of God, let us lean on Him instead of strive with human flesh.
Romans 6:23
English Standard Version (ESV)
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
When I first read this quote... I thought he was simply speaking of boasting in general and not of a specific thing. The quote reads:
"The man who has not anything to boast of but his illustrious ancestors, is like a potato—the only good belonging to him is underground."
--Thomas Overbury (1581–1615) who was a British poet and essayist. We do not have something to boast from ourselves or our ancestry Mr. Overbury. On top of that everyone's common ancestor, Adam, was not so great to boast of anyhow.
Yet, apart from the overflowing mercies of Christ, is this not true of all of us? Including Mr. Overbury himself.
Lets pretend that he really meant to say this horrible statement instead... as I accidentally read it mentally."The man who has not anything to boast of is like a potato—the only good belonging to him is underground."
Nothing but potatoes we are, when we think we have anything to boast of... in general.

Galatians 6:14-15
English Standard Version (ESV)
14 But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. 15 For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation.
Romans 15:14-17
English Standard Version (ESV)
14 I myself am satisfied about you, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge and able to instruct one another. 15 But on some points I have written to you very boldly by way of reminder, because of the grace given me by God 16 to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles in the priestly service of the gospel of God, so that the offering of the Gentiles may be acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit. 17 In Christ Jesus, then, I have reason to be proud of my work for God.
1 Corinthians 1:26-31
English Standard Version (ESV)
"not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; 28 God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, 29 so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. 30 And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, 31 so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”2 Corinthians 10:17
English Standard Version (ESV)
17 “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”
Do we boast in what shows our WEAKNESS of all things? Paul, our example, did.
2 Corinthians 12:9
English Standard Version (ESV)
9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
2 Corinthians 11:29-31
English Standard Version (ESV)
29 Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is made to fall, and I am not indignant?
30 If I must boast, I will boast of the things that show my weakness. 31 The God and Father of the Lord Jesus, he who is blessed forever, knows that I am not lying.

1 Corinthians 4:1-7
English Standard Version (ESV)
4 This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.2 Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful. 3 But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you or by any human court. In fact, I do not even judge myself. 4 For I am not aware of anything against myself, but I am not thereby acquitted. It is the Lord who judges me.5 Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then each one will receive his commendation from God.
6 I have applied all these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, brothers, that you may learn by us not to go beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up in favor of one against another. 7 For who sees anything different in you? What do you have that you did not receive? If then you received it, why do you boast as if you did not receive it?Jeremiah 9:23-24
English Standard Version (ESV)
23 Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, 24 but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord.”
We have no clue how much God loves us...

Ephesians 3:14-21
English Standard Version (ESV)
14 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, 16 that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
20 Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
